What Is This Site?
Godhunting.org is a Christian research center online. It is a place to study the question of God from the sources: Christian writings from across the centuries, the arguments of those who disagree, and courses that lay the theories of God side by side. Most of it lives inside a members’ area we call Solephia™, a walled city of light, wisdom, and truth. The pages you can read without joining—this one among them—are outside the wall; everything else is inside it. Membership is free.
Who Is Behind It?
Godhunting Resources®, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in Washington State, is run by scholars and the members who work alongside them. We are not a church, and we belong to no denomination.
What Do You Believe, and Do I Have to Believe It?
We are primarily scholars who call ourselves Christian, usually of the more conservative or orthodox kind. We work shoulder to shoulder with people of many belief systems, from atheism to Buddhism. Our job is not to make judgments but to inform. If someone changes their beliefs, that is between them and God. We are willing to explain why we believe what we believe, but we are not trying to force our beliefs on anybody. You do not have to be a Christian, or anything else, to join.
Are You Trying to Convert Me?
No. We want godhunting.org to be a safe, intellectually rigorous place for every seeker of the truth. We will show you what the sources say and let you weigh them. What you conclude is yours.
Why Is Most of the Site Behind a Login?
The internet is loud, distracting, and run by algorithms. There are many bad actors who attempt to disrupt websites. Our front page is a quiet zone where you can play music and think. Beyond it, the research and the courses live inside the wall so that the room stays quiet and the people in it are there to study. The wall is not there to keep you out; it is there to keep the noise out. A free membership opens the gate.
Can a Visitor See Everything?
Not quite. Visitors can see much of Solephia, but some places are open only to Citizens. Citizenship is a privilege, received in several ways, among them taking part: reading, learning and serving inside the wall. See the membership levels.
Can I Create an Online Memorial for Someone I Love?
Yes, if you are a Citizen of Solephia. Solephia Rest is the memorial ground of Solephia, where a Citizen can create a private Christian online memorial: a portrait over the fireplace, the life story, photographs and a guest book for tributes, with a Friends and Family Room open only to those the family admits. What Does It Cost?
Nothing to join, and nothing to study. Inside, everything runs on Solis, credits you earn by studying and by helping; the Soli has its own sign, , and you will see it on every price inside the wall. We are a nonprofit with real expenses, and we welcome donations, but you will not find a donate button on every page. We want your attention on the research and learning that brought you here, not on requests for money. There are only two alms boxes: one outside the wall and one inside. You will also find plaques and links to our projects on many pages. Each one leads to that project’s own page, where you can read about the work and find your way to giving. Every gift goes through the same checkout, with a drop-down list of everything we are raising money for: the projects we help fund, such as a goat farm run by a church in Nepal, and our own overhead, including the software and the AI help that builds and runs this site. You choose where your gift goes. Your giving account and your tax records live with our donation service, Fundraise Up. Nobody is asked to give in order to learn. Do You Make Money From Advertising?
No. The site has no advertisements, and we do not sell, rent, or trade anyone’s information. We are funded by donations. Our Privacy Policy says exactly what we collect and what we do with it.
What Do I Have to Give You to Get In?
A name, which may be an alias, an email address, and a password. Nothing else. The email address is how you recover your password, and it is the only way we will reach you unless you ask for more.
What Will I Find Inside?
A library of Christian writings from across the centuries, which you can borrow from with a library card. Fourteen courses on the theories of God, from a forensic search for footprints to the arguments for and against each theory. A research assistant that answers your questions with citations to the sources. Six newsletters. Rooms called Circles where members talk. And work to do, if you want it, that earns Solis () and builds the library for everyone. We have also tried to make the place worth looking at. Solephia is drawn as a city: a city center with its bank, library, and gazette, an academy quarter, and mining tunnels underneath where the old books are dug out and refined. You can wander it. We welcome tourists, and many members began as one.
What Is Godhunting? Why the Name?
The search for God is treated as a hunt: patient, honest, following the evidence where it leads. Proverbs says to seek wisdom as men seek silver, and that is our picture of it. A godhunter is anyone who has decided the question is worth the work.
Who Is Prof. Dr. Nemo LXON®?
The face on our pages. Nemo is our research assistant, an artificial intelligence with a voice of his own, who answers questions from the library and the sources and has a line or two to say on most subjects. His answers are generated automatically and are meant for study, not as anyone’s last word.
Is This for Scholars or for Ordinary People?
Both. The courses start at the beginning and assume nothing. The library is for anyone who reads. The scholars are here because the sources are here; the rest of us are here to read them.
Will You Email Me?
Only what you ask for. When you join, you get the notices that keep your account working. You choose every newsletter, and each one includes a link to stop it. We do not sell addresses.
Can I Help?
Yes. Members build the library by preparing out-of-print books for republication, editing them, and reviewing them. Many kinds of work go on inside, all of it earning Solis, and you will see it once you are in. Nobody is asked to do anything; the people who do are the ones who wanted to.
Will My Employer Add to My Help?
Many companies give a charity a set amount for each hour an employee serves and/or match an employee’s donation. Type your employer’s name below to see your company’s policy.
Why Does the Menu Offer Music?
Because the front page is a quiet zone. The music is quiet music that promotes contemplation; it plays only when you ask for it, and it follows you from page to page until you stop it.
How Do I Reach a Person?
By becoming part of the community. Join a Circle and talk. Put yourself in the member directory and other members can find you. Our management team is small and busy, but they enjoy making friends, and they run across the members who are active: if you become a major contributor, say as an editor preparing books for the library, everyone will probably know who you are. We cannot promise you will be friends with senior management, but people who show up tend to be noticed.
Where Do I Write?
Become a member. Members have a help menu inside the wall that answers most questions, and the Circles are where you talk to people. We do not publish email addresses on the public pages; the questions a stranger has are answered inside, and joining is free.
