Department of Finance: An Overview
Primary Function of the Department of Finance
The Department of Finance manages all incoming and outgoing money flow efficiently. This department is crucial for maintaining accurate records of donations, income, and expenses, which can significantly impact the organization’s reputation.
Inaccurate financial records can severely damage the reputation of a Christian nonprofit organization. Our commitment is to ensure total transparency and accuracy. As volunteers, we do not expect income from this project, but we recognize that human greed exists. Our CEO, a retired certified fraud examiner, will implement strong controls to safeguard our financial integrity.
Ongoing Projects of the Department of Finance
- Maintain a real-time record of all money flow, ensuring transparency and accountability;
- Provide current records of all money flow to stakeholders, enhancing trust and engagement;
- Manage the SEO relationship with the Google SEO grant, optimizing our online presence;
- Oversee all banking and credit card relationships, ensuring favorable terms and services;
- Supervise the organization’s trademark and service mark application and strategy, protecting our brand.
The Divisions of the Department of Finance
Our accounting divisions separate functions that are often performed by a single person to enhance efficiency and specialization. This structure is designed for low overhead using digital tools, allowing us to operate effectively even with volunteers. By leveraging digital tools, we offer remote Christian volunteer opportunities for accounting and finance professionals.
Accounting Division
QuickBooks has generously donated its cloud accounting system, enabling us to manage our records efficiently. This system will provide near-instant disclosure to our donors, fostering trust and transparency. Furthermore, we expect that many volunteers will have familiarity with QuickBooks, which will facilitate our operations.
Records Division
While we expect most records to be digital, there is a need for an organized system to handle these documents. Someone will need to oversee the organization of these records and scan paper documents when necessary. Our goal is to make all relevant records accessible to our administrative team online, enhancing collaboration and efficiency.
SEO Division
We aim to leverage Google’s grant program for nonprofits, which provides eligible organizations with $10,000 USD per month (around $329/day) in “in-kind” advertising credit, to maximize the spread of the knowledge of God. These ads appear solely on Google Search Result Pages (SERPs), displayed as text-based results similar to standard paid listings.
Adhering to Google’s strict rules regarding the grant is imperative; for instance, maintaining a minimum 5% click-through rate (clicks per impressions) monthly is required. Additionally, keyword usage must be strategic—single-word keywords are prohibited, necessitating more descriptive terms (e.g., you cannot bid on “God”; instead, you would bid on “Evidence for the existence of God”). We also need to implement Google Analytics to track meaningful actions, such as signups for the Godhunting Academy or downloads of the LXON Library.
We welcome any volunteers with experience in this area to enhance our efforts.
Banking and Credit Card Relationships
Establishing and maintaining strong banking and credit card relationships is vital for the financial health of our organization. We are seeking to negotiate favorable terms that will allow us to minimize fees while maximizing our financial resources. This includes setting up accounts that provide us with the best interest rates and rewards programs that can benefit our nonprofit initiatives.
Legal Division
As a nonprofit organization, we do not require a large legal department. Most of our legal needs consist of routine corporate filings, tax returns, trademark filing and maintenance, and managing contracts with affiliates and authors. We believe that these tasks can be effectively overseen by volunteers under the supervision of the Department of Finance, ensuring that we remain compliant with all legal obligations.
